Congratulations to Karen Carney with her successes at the European Masters Championships held in London this week. Karen came away with a Silver medal on Platform, a bronze on 3 metre springboard and 6th place on the 1 metre springboard. A magnificent achievement in her first European Championships.

Coaching assistant and former Darlington diver Emily Bearpark represented Leeds in the Senet Diving Cup in Eindhoven last week up against some of the best divers in Europe and won 3 silver medals, missing out on gold by less than 4 points each time. She achieved 3 personal best scores and also scored 9’s for her back dive piked from 7 metre platform. She is hoping for selection later this year for the Junior European championships and this performance will certainly not harm her chances of that

Still aged 9, Emily Bearpark competed in the National Age Group Diving Championships held at Ponds Forge, Sheffield, 7-10 July, and did exceptionally well over the 3 days.

She won a Silver Medal in the 5m Platform event for girls aged 11 and under and ranked 5th in the 3m Springboard event, and 7th in the 1m Springboard event, both events again for girls aged 11 and under. She also achieved personal best scores in all these events.

All of this is an exceptional achivement since she missed 4months of training earlier this year due to a broken arm which she did whilst training.

Congratulations to Emily Bearpark who received an award for remarkable achievement at the Local Heroes Awards 2010 which were held at Hardwick Hall in Sedgefield on Thursday 13th Jan 2011.
